Transformers draw off, prep work. Just for fun.
© Warwick Fraser-Coombe 2011
My good friend, and childrens' book illustrator Sam Hearn, challenged me to a Transformers (Gen 1) draw off, as we were both huge childhood fans of the eighties comics.
I warmed up with these scribbles to get me in the mood. I decided to play around with inventing new characters to start with, before moving onto more established characters for the final piece. (Still to come).
It brought me back to the lost days of my youth when I would sit for hours designing in my head, Transformers that might change into all manner of bizarre and sometimes oddly mundane objects: traffic lights, suitcases, cityblocks and space stations.
I'll link to Sam's blog when he gets around to fulfilling his side of the bargin.

A follow up piece on me by writer and blogger James Worrad who it seems has become the Interzone go-to-guy for artist interviews.
He was kind enough to be one of the first people to buy my six-part-cover print for Interzone and is a thoroughly nice chap. Check out his blog here.
